Police Scotland have written to Cambuslang Community Council with a proposal for the closure and sale of Cambuslang police office and transfer of jobs and functions to Rutherglen. They say that:

“there are currently two police buildings in the locality, one in Cambuslang and the other in Rutherglen. Cambuslang office is currently utilised by detective officers covering the wider Hamilton, East Kilbride, Cambuslang and Rutherglen areas. You will also be aware that front counter services ceased at Cambuslang office some time ago with this facility now being provided locally at Rutherglen office.”

“Local community officers currently report to Rutherglen office from where they deploy across both areas with response policing currently delivered from East Kilbride police office. Assessment of our local estate, balanced with community need and the provision of a visible, accessible and responsive service, suggests that the retention of both offices is no longer sustainable. By making the best use of the property we retain, we will be more efficient and able to make better use of public funds that can be reinvested into frontline policing.”
